The Fat Loss Energy Success Principles
- Focus on cranking up your metabolism in order to burn fat effectively. A slower metabolism is not what you want if you are aiming to lose body fat. How? With the sum of 3 things: building lean muscle (don’t panic – not bulky muscle but toned and lean muscle), good nutrition and cardio. Read on!
- Eat small meals every 2-3hours with the right combination of protein, carbohydrate and ‘good’ fats.
- No more starvation diets! Very low calorie diets without exercise will always cause a big percentage of weight loss to come from muscle tissue. Also, many diets, especially those that are low in carbohydrates cause large losses in water weight. So you may think you are losing weight but in fact very little is from fat loss. Now you have less muscle and a slower metabolism so it becomes harder to lose weight again and so the cycle continues.
- Eat a combination of nutrients at each meal. You don’t need to get bogged down by this, keep it simple. You should aim for a source of protein (eg lean meats, eggs, fish), fibrous carbohydrates (eg: vegetables) and a smaller portion of healthy fats (flaxseed oil, olive oil oily fish like mackerel or salmon). Look at each meal containing approximately 50% fibrous carbohydrates, 35% protein and 15% healthy fats.
- Make ‘good’ fats your new best friend. Yes really! Eating the right fats can actually help with your fat-loss because they can assist with your insulin function and increase your lean muscle building hormones. Not only that, ‘good’ fats strengthen your bones and improve your skin and hair; all essential as we age. Just make sure you avoid saturated fats such as butter, cream, cheese, coconut oil, fat on meat etc. They won’t help your fat loss and will also greatly increase your risk of heart disease and many other diseases.
- Avoid Refined Sugar and Learn to read food labels. “Fat free doesn’t mean sugar free or calorie free.
Many people have cut out the fat only to replace it with refined sugar. Now, even foods that have never contained any fat now have labels saying “no fat”. A food can say “fat free” on the label and be 100% sugar! Even marshmallows have a label on them now saying 99% fat free. Well guess what? They have always been 99% fat free because they’re mostly sugar (and of course high in calories with practically zero nutritional value)
- Increase your water intake. Ok, most people know they should be drinking water every day for general healthy but did you know that water is a thermogesic? ie: it helps to speed up your metabolism thus aiding in fat loss. If you are dehydrated your liver can’t work efficiently with the result that your body may not be able to burn your body fat efficiently. Water is also a great energiser. If you are feeling sluggish or struggling to get through your workouts have a look at your water intake. I bet you haven’t had enough water lately.
- Avoid eating starchy carbohydrates at night. By this I mean, rice, bread, potatoes, pasta. Your body does not need them at night and will store starchy carbohydrates as fat. Instead have a combination of protein and vegetables with a small amount of ‘good fats’
- The 3 factor combo. No it’s not a new style of burger! Doing all 3 of these things will improve your fat loss results dramatically. Cardio, weight training and good nutrition. One or two without the other is simply not going to cut it. You must focus on all 3 for faster more effective results. Do not just slug it out on the treadmill day after day or you will plateau. Similarly, if you do your cardio and weight training whilst still eating junk food you won’t get the body you want.
- Don’t be afraid of training with weights. Weight training will not make you bulky! Weight training will speed up your fat loss. How? Weight training develops lean muscle. The more lean muscle you have the higher your metabolic rate which means that you burn more calories at rest. That’s right, at rest!
- Early morning fasted cardio is a secret method to increase the fat burning effects of your training. There are many other benefits of getting your training done early, so why not try to be a morning person?
- Have one ‘treat meal’ a week and enjoy it! Going without your favourite foods simply makes you crave it more. This is when you are most likely to have a blow out. You’re a chocolate addict? Give yourself to have a mini chocolate bar once a week.
Imagine how you would feel if you never had to go on a diet again, had loads of energy and could go into any boutique, try on any clothes and look great?
The thing is that I’ve been there and have done all the research and trial and error to make sure that you don’t have to go through the same mistakes. Does any of this sound familiar?
Its 9pm Sunday night before you start work on Monday. You’re feeling guilty about how much wine and junk food you had over the weekend. You’re feeling bloated and don’t know what to wear to work tomorrow cause none of your clothes fit properly and you’re sick of wearing the same old ‘fat clothes’. You vow to start a diet tomorrow (yet again) and won’t have any alcohol all week.
Well by Monday mid-morning when you felt depressed about being at work you decided that you deserved that Tim Tam at morning tea cause ‘life’s too short’. By lunchtime you went to get your piece of fruit that you had packed but thought well I’ve blown it now with having the Tim Tam at morning tea I’ll start my diet again tomorrow, so you have a toasted ham and cheese sandwiches with a Coffee chill and a muffin, cause if you’re going to starve yourself tomorrow you might as well go all out now. No point in going for that walk as planned after work ‘cause you’re not starting the diet till tomorrow anyway. You get a phone call that night from friends who have a pool asking you to a BBQ on Saturday and tell you to bring your bathers. You immediately go into panic mode – you have nothing to wear to the BBQ let alone being seen in your bathers. You decide to start your starvation diet tomorrow.
Its Saturday afternoon you don’t want to go to the BBQ ‘cause you didn’t last more than a day on your starvation diet. You wear your fat clothes and make up some lame excuse why you’re not swimming. You’re miserable, so you drink more than you should.
You see a friend the same age as you that you haven’t seen for ages who is looking fantastic. She’s in a great black one piece bathing suit and is having the time of her life. You think to yourself “if only I could look lean and toned and look so healthy like her.”
